It’s almost weekend, and John and I have been hard at work to get you a fresh and delicious recipe to accompany your Friday taco session. It’s tangy, sweet, salty and sour, and has lots of spice and flavour, and will definitely not be overpowered by your spicy treat. Tacos have by many been given the title of being Norway’s national dish, but we are not talking about traditional Mexican tacos here, even if Norwegians like to think so. Norwegians love taco! We really do. But we do tacos a little different, a way that is not only surprising, but downright puzzling to most americans I have met. We don’t eat soft tacos, and we introduce apple, pineapple and cucumber into the mix. I wanted to out the Norwegian taco Friday to the test, and introduced it to John and Daniel.
We don’t normally drink cocktails with out tacos, but John and I had to make a little something to complete the meal. A Grapefruit Margarita. When you make margaritas, making a pitcher is the only right thing to do because you are all going to want to have more than one. This recipe is enough for about ten cocktails, just abut enough to be perfectly tipsy!
What you'll need to make a batch is:
250ml simple syrup
a dash of Grand Marnier or Cointreu
Start by making the simple syrup by bringing equal parts of water and sugar to a boil. While the syrup is cooling down, juice all the citrus fruits and add it to a big mug or bowl, depending on how you want to serve it. Pour the tequila, triple sec, and cold simple syrup into the citrus juice and stir well. Taste and see if it needs more simple syrup or alcohol. It all comes down to preference.
According to John, the perfect accessory for this drink is not just salt, but a combination of salt, sugar and cayenne pepper for that extra little kick, flavor and colour. Mix all the ingredients on a plate, run a slice of grapefruit or lime along the edge of the glass, and dip it in the sweet and salty deliciousness beforefilling up your gass with ice and margarita.
Have a great weekend!
Go make some delicious cocktails.
