When I got the negatives from the Paris trip back, I was happy that they turned out at all. You never know with a new (old) camera, and I was very excited when I could see that the negatives looked good. I'm so impatient that when I get the negatives back, I can almost not wait to get out of the store to roll them out and look at them. So if you see someone standing in the middle of the street looking up through a roll of negatives, that's probably me. I must say that I'm quite pleased with the little Konica that my grandfather gave me. The lense is not super good, so the pictures are not very sharp and it's really hard to get what you want in focus because it's all done by setting the distance, and not actually focusing. But besides that I'm quite happy with it, and I wanted to share some of the pictures that Charlotte and I took in Paris in April. I really like to see the trip through the different cameras. I always bring more than one, and at least one digital + one analogue. It's important, okay?
Can't get enough of this view
I literally have a constant craving to go back (and it's way worse than craving chocolate because it's far away and out of reach).
Maybe I'm actually going to have to move there for a while to satisfy it.
Birthday breakfast at Ladurée With pain perdu and hot chocolate, soft fluffy omelettes and buckets of tea.
If you have been to Ladurée in Paris, you'll know that it's the perfect spot for an indulgent birthday breakfast. Tons of sweet treats, amazing hot chocolate, brunch and breakfast plates and lots of little dishes for those of you who don't like a sweet breakfast. All the Ladurée tea rooms in Paris are decorated differently and I must admit that I've been to all of them. Probably more than once. Top recommendations on what to order, or take home?
Raspberry and lemon macarons
Sugar coated almonds
their Teeny tiny burger collection
Kir royal avec Mûre
Believe me, if you like baking chocolaty things or making hot chocolate you are going to want that cocoa powder in your suitcase going home. It is ridiculously good (and ridiculously expensive) and I never buy enough to last me until the next time I go to Paris, and always end up regretting it.
Charlotte and I went twice
One breakfast and an afternoon treat to keep us out of the rain
At Folks and Sparrows for a late breakfast.
Birthday celebrations in Paris
My birthday this year was kind of strange. I laughed and cried (a lot). We ate pastry, strolled through the city in the rain, did a little birthday shopping and Charlotte treated me to dinner at Bespoke. Dresses and high heels, burgers and cake, and cocktails to drown the tears and celebrate. The cute bartender putting fireworks in my dessert and giving us champagne shots sure contributed to our very happy mood. I really wouldn't have spent my day with anyone else. Charlotte is amazing!
STAY TUNED AND
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!
PARIS IN AN INCREDIBLY PHOTOGENIC CITY
Charlotte is a super photogenic girl
. . . and I'm guessing that's why the pictures turned out as sweet and lovely as they did. I really like this strange new camera, and I'm planning to keep it on me for all my travels. It's so small and weighs nothing. Point and shoot = no effort needed.
Later this week Charlotte and I will make you guys a new cocktail recipe and discuss what to put in our Paris guide, so if there are anything specific you would like you can write me. We are covering things you know you'll need, like tips for restaurants, coffee, pastry, shopping, cocktails and museums, and things that you might not know you'll need, like grocery shops, how to get to Versailles, a guide to the metro map and where to find the best outdoor food markets (and what days they are open).
You can write me right here with questions of requests!
I can't wait to revisit our favourite spots with you through the Paris guide that is coming up. The fall is the perfect time to go, so if you haven't booked your autumn getaway you know what I would suggest! I'm buried under my master thesis and enjoying every day of these last months as a student, but I do wish that I would get a little escape as well.
