Every summer for the past few years, I have been invited to visit Preben and Anders in their vacation house in Sweden. It is located in Mjöhult, only a short ride from the ocean, has a wonderful outdoor space, big, soft couches and a fireplace in the dining room. Perfect for hot summer days and lazy autumn weekends. It has been quite cloudy and cold this summer, so if the weather allows you to sit outside and eat dinner, you should take advantage of the situation. The night of the day I arrived, we had a delicious tuna salad, lots of wine and a terrific dessert that Anders made: baked fruits and strawberries with white chocolate and ice cream. A bit tired and tipsy from the wine we sat outside wrapped in layers of wool until we decided to go to bed. The perfect lazy Friday night!
Tuna, mango, something green, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper.
So incredibly delicious!
The morning after we had a nice breakfast and watched series (Preben and me that is, Anders went for a run! So active on a Saturday morning..) before we headed off to the annual flea market in Mjöhult. So many people, buying so much weird stuff, eating the biggest hotdog I have ever encountered, in pouring rain, and frankly we had quite a good time. We all came home with Swedish treasures. The boys bought a huge stack of records and magazines, Christmas decorations and a mirror, while I spent a total of 20kr on two little plates decorated in gold, and a strange little hand bag covered in flowers and insects in bright colours.
Preben is taking part in my flower decorated beard project this summer, and we shot a lot of pictures this Saturday. He was very patient with me, and I got to do different locations, with different flowers. And I got to pick my favorite flowers in their garden!
Preben allowed me to be a bit more adventurous with the flowers when photographing him than my brother was.
They were bigger, bolder and brighter.
Later that evening, when we were dancing in the living room listening to the new records, Madonna's Like A Prayer came on and Preben jumped up and told me that that was the look he was going for in the following picture. Makes so much more sense to me now.
Well, everyone can't look as composed and elegant as Preben.
Having a little time away from the city really works wonders for me. Being away from the scenery of my daily life, with no access to my computer, books I could read, research I could do, crossfit classes I could go to, people I should see, and all those other things I really appreciate in the weekdays.
Taking a break is good, but it's hard to really take a break when you are surrounded by the distractions you really need to let go off to relax. Hanging out with Preben and Anders is very relaxing. Anders is often busy working on something while Preben and I are a bit more lazy, drinking coffee, watching series or planning and talking about new and old projects. And I love the roses is their garden!!
I hope you all had a relaxing weekend away from work.
