Right now the apprentices at The Royal Danish Ballet are preparing for their yearly ballet exams. The exam that every summer determines their future and either brings them one step closer to the dream of becoming a ballet dancer in the company, or sends them out into a reality that is very different than the one they have at the ballet. This is one of the reasons the ballet has changed the conditions for the ballet apprentices, and means that they don't stop regular school when they are 16, but goes to high school as well as having dance classes. Every day, including Saturday! They are placed in an young elite class with other high school students that do sport at an elite level and have professional aspirations.
A little while ago I got to spend an entire day with Emma and the other girls. From high school, throughout afternoon classes with the wonderful Adam Lüders, to preparation and warmup and an evening performance in Hübberiet. The article and interview with Emma is coming up next week, but I wanted to share a few shots with you now! (Also, I absolutely love how effortless and elegant the stunning Madeleine (in the pictures below) makes a warmup look).
