I have a lot of siblings. We are a total of three boys and three girls, and I love them all to pieces. Raslan Bastian was born the year I moved abroad, and it is super important to me to be a big part if his life, and to be a good big sister even though I can't physically be there all the time. When visiting my family on an early Easter trip I got to see my little brother do taekwondo with one of his trainers, a double black striped red belt named Marcus. Martial arts is something that I really love, and I'm very grateful I started so young. I really think that it is promoting a very healthy body image which is a brilliant start in the transition into adulthood: a focus on how strong, fast and healthy your body is, rather than how pretty or slim you are. Technique, dedication and building your self-esteem.
My brother is six, and two years too young to even start but he already has his yellow stripe. I'm so proud of him, and it was really nice to finally meet his private trainer, Marcus. He is very patient with my brother, and with the attention span of a six year old that sure is a good thing. It was not exactly easy to photograph this little guy:
He is such a beautiful and kind boy, and I'm sure that he will grow up to be a wonderful man and a brilliant fighter. Can't wait to follow his journey. Who knows, maybe he'll become a black striped red belt like me!
