The Royal Danish Ballet is full of talented people. From the instructors, dancers and choreographers to the costume department, musicians and all the other driving forces behind the scenes. In the Backstage project I have decided to tune into some of the incredibly talented, dedicated and ambitious young artists at the ballet and let you in behind the scenes of their lives as they are faced with wonderful and challenging opportunities to develop and shine.
I’m delighted that Oliver Starpov is one of the artists that I will be working with on this project. He is a dancer in the ballet corps, and has been given the opportunity to choreograph part of the new Swan Lake production that has its premiere at The Royal Danish Ballet on the 13th of March.
This Friday I got to visit him on one of his rehearsals and I’m so exited to see more. What he does is truly wonderful and I can’t wait to see the final result. The Royal Theatre made a little video on him that I would like to share with you as a little teaser of what’s to come. To get a chance like this at his age (he is 19!!) is quite impressive and so is his work.
In the next couple of weeks I will be sharing a lot of little moments from my work on Backstage, because there is simply no way that I can fit everything I want to show you into the final articles. So a little behind the scenes material on the behind the scenes project is coming up. Can’t wait to finally get into the real work on this project, and Oliver’s rehearsal was the perfect beginning of the weeks that lie ahead of me.
