Like most of you already know, I have been interning at The Royal Danish Theatre since June last year, but for the past couple of months I have been working on a little something I’m thrilled to finally be sharing with you: Morning Projects will be doing a collaboration with KGL+, which means that I can work with The Royal Danish Ballet.
Personally I’ve been fascinated with the ballet world ever since I watched Sleeping Beauty by the Norwegian National Ballet on TV as a child, so getting to play around with my camera at the Royal Danish Ballet feels quite surreal. Ballet is breath taking, and it’s hard not to be drawn in by the perfection that is presented on stage. Ballet is encircled by a kind of mystery with its fairy tales, pointe shoes, tutus and beauty, but apart from the perfection the dancers portray there is a lot of hard work that goes into the final product. In this project, I aim at creating deep digging articles that reveal the exiting world that the Royal Ballet is. The project is called BACKSTAGE and the photo articles will showcase elements that define the ballet and reveals a little of what goes on behind the scenes.
The four first photo articles will be posted this spring and will tell four different stories of the life at the Royal Ballet: The pointe shoe, a day in the life of a ballet aspirant, a swan princess costume from drawing board to premiere and the gruelling ballet training. I will be posting little treats throughout the process as well as the final articles (that will also be available in Danish at the Royal Theatre's website), and I can’t wait to show you the beautiful, ambitious and dedicated people working on making this wonderful world flourish.
I feel so lucky to be let into this wonderful thing I’ve been admiring from afar for so long, and to meet and work with all these inspiring people. I’m ready for hard work and amazingness this spring!
