So, London brought quite a few new experiences and pushed me far out of my comfort zone, which somehow seems to be this year’s theme for me. In August I was hired for a little branding job, based on this little blog project and throughout September I worked on redoing the interior, menu and image of this great coffee shop in Copenhagen and get to do a lot of photo work for them because they want me to stay on to run their instagram and facebook account. The launch of the new style happened two days before I went to London, and I decided to give myself a little treat for landing my first job: Coco Mademoiselle. It’s fresh, but a lot more grown up than what I usually wear. It makes me feel sensual, super professional and totally on top of things! It feels like a little rite of passage to add this to my collection, I’m building my career and it needs to be celebrated.
Going to London, I though I would spend my entire shopping budget on clothes, but being there, trying stuff on and not really feeling so fabulous I decided not to. After being injured this spring and not being able to exercise like normal, it’s safe to say that I’m far off my usual shape, so I decided to spend my budget on something that I rarely prioritize: wonderful products! I never spend much on makeup, and always put off buying things I’ve been wanting for years, but this time I decided to go all in and must say that I haven’t regretted it one bit and have found a couple of new favourites that literally brightens up my day.
My skin is super sensitive, and is easily affected by what season we’re in, what I eat and my skin routine. I’ve never bought a foundation like this before, because I always feel like I have a layer of clay in my face, but I got a sample of the new Dior foundation in ELLE on my first night in London, and both my sister and I went a little crazy for it. It’s super light and deliciously soft. But since my pores and I are not exactly best friends, I need a little something in my skin routine to battle it. Kiehl’s does wonders for my skin, and these are my two favourite products. They are quite affordable because they last for ages (and their recycle policy gives you a free product for every 3,5 or 10 empty bottles you return).
Having read an avalanche of reviews on mascara (leaving your favourite and companion through rain and tears for years is not simple, okay!), I decided on these two and I’m smitten. Great brushes, big lashes! They are really good for building a really great look to go with a nice liquid liner or just on their own. Lashes are one thing, but the next two products are like pure magic. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I adore these them.
Contouring powder. Just fabulous. Never thought I’d like contouring because I associate it with having way too much makeup on. I chose a quite light shade, so it’s easier to apply and build up. And all Chanel products: the most amazing packaging, and it smells so damn good. I kind of forget, and get a nice surprise every time I open the box.
This next on is basically liquid gold and my new ultimate favourite. Highlighter is applied on your cheekbone, brow bone and on the line of your upper lip. This last point is completely new to me and is so incredibly gorgeous. Just remember to blend it in really well.
BRUSHES! I love good brushes, and these ones from Bodyshop are super affordable, soft (very important) and easy to clean (equally important). The combined brow brush and pencil from Topshop is the best one I’ve ever tried and cost next to nothing. Perfection!
I can see why it might seen silly to make such a big fuzz about makeup, but frankly I can’t tone down my exitement because of it! I absolutelly love how you can enhance and highlight different things about your face for different kinds of occations and it can really push your look a little firther. Even the scent you choose to wear says something about you, and I really like to play with that! So many wonderful products to choose from, but these have my full attention (at least for now). If you want to add one thing to your collection, it should be a highlighter. It really brings something wonderful to the most simple look. If I were to choose only three things to wear, it would be mascara, tinted lip balm and highlighter. Easy and gorgeous!
